Data Modelling and Database Requirements for Geographical Data

نویسنده

چکیده

An overview of the fields of data modelling, database systems and geographical information systems is presented as a background. Requirements to a data model and a data modelling methodology for geographical data are investigated and presented. Another contribution is an extension of the traditional ER-diagrams to better communicate the semantics of geographical data. The approach is based on earlier work on Sub-Model Substitution, and adds new symbology that is relevant for geographical data. Database system requirements for geographical data servers are investigated and presented, together with new ideas on distribution of geographical data for parallel processing.

Metadata Enrichment for Automatic Data Entry Based on Relational Data Models

The idea of automatic generation of data entry forms based on data relational models is a common and known idea that has been discussed day by day more than before according to the popularity of agile methods in software development accompanying development of programming tools. One of the requirements of the automation methods, whether in commercial products or the relevant research projects, ...

Spatial Data in Land Management and Local Government

The contribution deals with the contextual design of spatial data for regional development and land management purposes. Further development of information technologies, image processing techniques and contextual knowledge-based databases, together with the geographical networks environment, will provide quite new and considerably wider possibilities of using GIS. GIS architecture is open to in...

Object-oriented data modelling for spatial databases

Data modelling is a critical stage of database design. Recent research has focused upon object-oriented data modes, which appear more appropriate for certain applications than either the traditional relational model or the entity-relationship approach. The object-oriented approach has proved to be especially fruitful in application areas, such as the design of geographical information systems w...

Multi-Scale Partitions: Application to Spatial and Statistical Databases

We study the impact of scale on data representation from both the modelling and querying points of view. While our starting point was geographical applications, statistical databases also address this problem of data representation at various levels of abstraction. From these requirements, we propose a model which allows: (i) database querying without exact knowledge of the data abstraction lev...

Relationale und objektrelationale Datenbankkonzepte in Geoinformationssystemen

The management of spatial data in relational databases provides a number of advantages compared to traditional (separated) approaches where geometry and metadata are kept in file systems as opposed to alphanumeric data that reside in relational databases. Above all relational databases ensure efficient spatial data management by providing multi-user support and better control of spatial data qu...
